Hey, it's OK!

  • To ask every one of your friends for advice, then do exactly what you would’ve done pre-advice.
  • To take the bigger piece and hand them theirs before they see, always.
  • To tune out right after someone says, “Oh my wooord, I had such a weird dream last night…”
  • To be able to fall asleep immediately after flipping the pillow over to the “cold side.”
  • To hate running into an acquaintance in public again after you’ve already said hello/conversed briefly.
  • To say it’s homemade (you opened the box, you mixed the mix).
  • To correct people who mispronounce your name.
  • To have to sing the alphabet a little bit in your head to know what order the letters go in
  • To try on 87 pairs of shoes and only buy one…on sale
  • To Google an ex or a crush or their girlfriend or best friend or…at 2 AM.
  • That you’ve lied through your teeth to pronounce an outfit “surprisingly totally comfy.”
  • To really enjoy crying at the movies, as in full-scale sobbing.
  • To communi-fake by texting in order to get out of talking or making eye contact with someone.
  • To never quite figure out what to do with the back of your hair or make it look half as good as the front.
  • To take all the credit.
  • To say, “Oh, it’s vintage” when someone compliments you on the Old Navy sundress you’ve been wearing since 9th grade.

Not much Heart to Fight Black Coffee

Really cute coffee cups

Coffee is good great for you.

According to just about everyone…
“The average cup of coffee has hundreds of different chemical compounds. Maybe that’s why news reports about coffee vacillate between lauding its health benefits and labeling it harmful. Still, the benefits of coffee seem to outweigh the negatives. To name just a few: Some researchers recently discovered that caffeinated coffee helps improve memory in older adults. A new study suggests that small amounts of coffee consumed throughout the day can increase alertness and improve performance on all kinds of tasks, including those that require hand-to-eye coordination and attention to detail. Preliminary studies suggest regular coffee drinking may lower risk of type 2 diabetes.”

“After 30 years of research, it’s been proven that caffeine before a workout can make you faster and improve your athletic performance. Between one to five milligrams of caffeine per kilo of body weight can help to improve your performance by up to five percent. However, nine mg of caffeine per kilo can actually decrease your performance, so don’t go overboard. Recent research shows significant evidence that caffeine before exercise results in reduced soreness.”

That’s it, I’m heading to the kettle.

The Reminder

[source & via]

It’s important to take a reality check sometimes. When reminded of all of the needs we have covered, it makes all of those wants and qualms less relevant. Continually guilty of this, I need to remember that all of the traffic jams, failed exams, spilled drinks, canceled plans, coveted luck, and regretted actions are definitely not as life-shattering in hindsight.

On Being Present

A little reminder for those days when you hit snooze 4+ times, when you cancel out the sounds of the world with your iPod, when you avoid all eye contact on the sidewalk, when you just want to shirk each and every responsibility. It’s all too easy to check out for the day, to be there but to really be more absent than anything. Next time it almost happens, I’m making a goal to stay present.

The Little Things

Sure, the big things are great. They’re what we live for. But getting from Point A to Point B would be a whole lot more lackluster if not for all the wonderful little things in life.

Like staying up too late…but then seeing the sun rise.
Like putting on warm clothes straight from the dryer.
Like laughing with a stranger.

Like waking up on time without an alarm.
